The first day of my Bali vacation started in Seminyak, around 30 minutes by car from the international airport in Denpasar. As a first time traveler in Bali, I was so excited because Bali has a lot of things to offer and the food is one of the many things that people love about this island.
I was wandering through the shops in the busy streets of Seminyak when my feet brought me to Ma Kao. A Chinese-influenced restaurant located in Plawa Street number 8 in Seminyak.
A friendly staff greeted me and offered the menu book to look at. Since it was around lunch time, she highlighted their lunch set offers. For lunchtime, you can get a very good deal of lunch menu like Roasted Pecking Duck or Crispy Pork Belly with rice (I ordered this one) and a glass of iced tea for only 55K Rupiahs or around USD 3.9.
It was beyond my expectation! I did not think that I would get a decent portion of food that tasted super delicious. I rarely eat pork, but when it is done nicely and served with cooked vegetable with Hainan rice like this… yummm! I could not ask for a better lunch because Ma Kao clearly knew how to bring pork to the next level.
Ma Kao was my to-go restaurant for lunch and I went there for four times during my stay in Seminyak. The restaurant has a good ambiance with friendly and well-mannered staff ready to assist you anytime needed. Kids can enjoy their lunch or dinner here as they have short tables and chairs with toys to keep them occupied after the meal. Toilets are clean and maintained.
The restaurant is never too crowded so you can enjoy your meal without feeling rushed by the flowing customers who wait for a table. But the best thing for me is the fact that they serve the best crispy pork belly I have ever tasted in Seminyak.
